Masks have been used for millennia as a way to honor Spirit in all faces and to create a way to connect and deepen relationship with a Deity or Land spirit – It is a way to embody those forces. For us, it will be a way to embody an Ancestor.

Cross-culturally, autumn is the time when the veil between the living and the beloved ancestors is thinnest and we may once again see their faces. So, let us each dive into the bio-cultural lineages we hold. And let us emerge with the face of a bio-cultural ancestor who can teach us of the lineages we hold. The plaster masks we create will be a reflection of our inherited histories. Ultimately, this becomes an opportunity to acknowledge the lineage histories we hold so we might begin to heal and elevate them.

We will, in sacred space and trance, be forming, creating, and imbuing the masks. We will be offering the gift of embodiment to the chosen ancestor as we Aspect with the masks. This involves sharing our consciousness and bodies with the ancestor. And we will learn and practice basic Aspecting techniques in order to create our masks. You might choose to continue decorating your mask during your time at camp or take it home in its original form. The ancestors will often offer their guidance.

There is a materials fee of $10 to cover supplies used in this workshop. This fee can be paid in cash to the workshop guide, or with a credit card at the Information Desk.
